I would certainly borrow someone’s charcoal grill. Just make sure you return cleaned.

As with everything, don't lend something you can't afford to lose. No one takes care of your property as well as their own or how you would want them to. If you have a problem with it, tell them you are using it or your mom, brother, sister, etc. has it. Or just say you're not comfortable lending it out but they got some cheap ones at Wal-mart for $19.99, some places even have them on clearance because it's after Labor Day.

well, the underwear thing is a bit dramatic. just have the person clean the grill before they give it back.

I do not see a problem with using a grill that someone else has cooked on if I clean it before using it or by putting aluminum foil down first. When we go camping they have grills at campsites, I just put aluminum foil down before cooking on it and I am sure there have been lots of ppl using it before I did but I do not want to think about that so my opinion would be no I would not mind.

Other than the fact that mine isn’t very portable, yes – I would feel weird. I have seen how other people clean their grills – leaving last BB Q’s food chunks, heating the grill up then just scrubbing off the chunks that have been loosened by the heat. YUCK! I soak my grids in hot water and clean with a brillo pad so they are super clean.
All of that stuff is on end of season sales everywhere. Why doesn’t your friend just buy one of those cheap use once then throw away grills?
