I was given a propane BBQ grill, and I have natural gas on my deck, I bought an adapter, can I use Nat. Gas?
on this BBQ?
When I was shopping grills at Home Depot, they’d just say that only the BBQs costing more than $300 were interchangeable, but that made no sense to me.
If I can get the connection jibed, and it has a valve, what’s the difference?
The fuel value of propane is considerably higher than for natural gas, so you need to replace the orifices in the gas jets with larger ones intended for natural gas. Since these are just little brass thingies with a small hole, the price should be reasonable.

Actually, the difference in pressure between the two gases is what makes the difference. The new orifices will have a considerably different size hole in them, which the gas will come through. If you use the wrong size orifice for either one, you’ll have problems getting a decent flame and may wind up with mostly soot. Not having any idea which grill you’ve purchased, it’s entirely possible that they are now equipped with an adjustable orifice to make changeover easier. In that case you’d only have to change pressure regulators and you should be able to adjust the orifices with a small crescent wrench.

All you should have to do , besides making sure the burner is indeed good , is remove the propane gas regulator . And replace it with a N/G regulator. DO NOT!!! cut the rubber hose and use hose clamps .!! They make hose and regulator setups for just this purpose. Look in the yellow pages for your town , and look under BBQ`s , they can help you with almost everything you need except the actual gas connection
