When you placed your hamburger patty onto the grill circle, there was a drainage piece that allowed burger fat juices. Were the grilling plates, themselves, made of alluminum, steel, iron or what? LMK and thanks.

It would seem they would be similar to skillets that have a Teflon coating, aluminum or stainless steel……

I’ve been thinking of getting a charcoal grill for a while now. Right now I mainly cook chicken in the oven and set it to 450 for 15-20 min then to broil last 5 min to char it (I love charred). It turns out okay but I was wondering if grilling it would be any better and worth the hassle of cleaning and maintaining the grill.

What do you think?

Flame broiling tastes better than oven broiling. But charcoal briquettes aren’t as good as using hardwood charcoal (which is real wood) because real wood has smoke that also adds flavor of the wood, like mesquite, hickory, or applewood.

Hey Dillon,,

I’ve got a very fine grilled chicken recipe for you from my 2005 Southern Living cookbook. Here it is.

Lexington-Style Grilled Chicken

Prep: 15 min., Chill: 2 hr., Grill: 40 min. Larry Elder says Lexington, North Carolina, pork barbecue inspired him to create this spicy-hot vinegar marinade for chicken.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 40 minutes
Chill: 2 hours
Yield: Makes 8 to 10 servings
Ingredients
2 cups cider vinegar
1/4 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3 tablespoons dried crushed red pepper
4 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons pepper
2 (2 1/2- to 3-pound) cut-up whole chickens*
Preparation
Stir together first 6 ingredients until blended.

Place half each of vinegar mixture and chicken in a large zip-top plastic freezer bag; seal. Repeat procedure with remaining vinegar mixture and chicken, placing in a separate zip-top plastic freezer bag. Chill chicken at least 2 hours or up to 8 hours, turning occasionally.

Remove chicken from marinade, discarding marinade.

Grill chicken, covered with grill lid, over medium-high heat (350° to 400°) 35 to 40 minutes or until done, turning occasionally.

*8 skinned and boned chicken breast halves and 8 skinned and boned chicken thighs may be substituted for whole chickens. Chill in marinade at least 1 to 2 hours, turning occasionally. Grill chicken, covered with grill lid, over medium-high heat (350° to 400°) 4 to 5 minutes on each side or until done.

Enjoy,

Sam

grill them whole, then slice after. Use olive oil and grill for about 2-3 minutes per side. Allow to cool for a couple of minutes…this makes sure very little juice leaks out. Use salt for flavor after, if you do it before you grill, it draws out the liquid and makes the mushroom tougher. Hope that helps!
