How can I safely dispose of a gas canister that was attached to my gas grill?

My grill was old and broken beyond fixing. I have a new grill with a new container, but I need to dispose the old one, which still has gas in it.
How do i get rid of it safely? Thank you.

If you have a safe place to store it, you can get the old one filled up and save it as a spare tank. Then if you run out of gas while you’re BBQing, you have it handy.

Take it to a propane facility. Look it up in your local yellow pages.
