do i need a grille for my subwoofers. they are alpine type rs?

i keep seeing accessory advertisements saying get a grill for it but do i need that? what is the purpose?

rills for your subs are usually only there to protcet them like if they are ina trunk and you have other stuff in your trunk. The grills keep stuff from rubbing on the speaker and making holes in them
