Can a gas outdoor grill get as hot as a charcoal grill?

I always have heard that the key to cooking steaks was extreme heat. It has always seemed to me that charcoal grills put off more heat. Especially if you use raw mesquite charcoal. Can gas grills put off as much heat?

Think you mean a propane grill. Yes propane grills can have just as much heat as a charcoal grill. Also propane can be controlled with the temperature where as charcoal cannot be controlled. Charcoal gives a better taste over all, but you can add misquite chips to your lava stones to give a nice flavour

  2. You don’t need extreme heat to grill a steak. I prefer charcoal for the flavor, yes they put off more heat but is unless you keep adding coals, the heat goes away. Steaks only require a minimal amount of time to cook correctly. They mesquite is great but the heat won’t be much different Thain Kingsford.
